the situation in Cavite

An industrialized province

Cavite is a province located south of Manila Bay, on the island of Luzon. It is home to 3.6 million people and is one of the most industrialised and fastest-growing provinces in the Philippines.

The influx of foreign direct investment, the development of export processing zones, and the establishment of numerous industrial parks on the outskirts of the megacity have contributed to the rapid urbanisation and economic growth of the provinces surrounding Metro Manila, including Cavite.

An emergency situation to coordinate

In 2009, BWW’s pilot water access project in northern Manila was destroyed by a fire in just three hours. Nearly 10,000 people were left homeless, and BWW immediately stepped in to provide support.

Following this disaster, BWW expanded its operations by exploring the province of Cavite and resuming its activities in several neighbourhoods in the area. The organisation is now present in 11 informal settlements.
