the situation in Chattogram

The largest harbour in the country

5 million people live in Chattogram (formerly known as Chittagong), the second-largest city and the main port of Bangladesh.

Mass urban migration has contributed to exponential urban growth and the explosion of slum areas in the city, where 1.5 million poor people live, often illiterate and without property rights. In Chattogram, only 50% of the population is served by piped water supply systems, mainly in residential areas.

Better with water’s first intervention slum in Chattogram was Nine Number Bridge, where the water network was inaugurated in 2017.

A second water network was established in 2022 in the CNB Colony neighborhood, followed by a third one in 2023 in Kalabagan.
